Most UK car competitions offer a cash alternative, typically between 60% and 85% of the retail value of the vehicle. Winners often take the car on instinct, then sell it months later at a loss.
The comparison to run is the cash alternative against the realistic private sale price of the car after transfer, insurance and any immediate servicing — not against the showroom sticker.
For performance cars with high running costs the cash alternative usually wins on pure numbers. For in-demand models with long factory lead times, the car can be worth more than the offer.
Either way, check the terms before you enter: the cash figure and the deadline for choosing it should both be stated up front.
